Giving up On Socks! Somebody Help Me!

So, I have some sock yarn and some tiny tiny dpns. If you have read my profile you know that I am 41.5 years old. I started wearing bifocals about 3 years ago. I have tried and tried to make socks on these tiny tiny needles. I just cannot do it. My fingers are too big and my eyes are too bad! So, I am going to give up unless someone out there can suggest something for me. I need a doable sock project for those with weak, old eyes that can be done on larger needles. Any suggestions?

Charity Squares

Well, I am still working away on my crocheted afgan. I will finish it this week as a part of my june stashalong goals. Its huge. I really like it and have decided to keep it!

My knitting guild is working on a charity project. We are making lapgans for a nursing home. Some people are making entire 40x40 lapgans. We are also making 10x10 squares and will sew them together in August as a group. Not a lot of these squares have been turned in. So, I have decided to make this my July stashalong project. I am knitting the squares from some of my skeins, one skein at a time until I cannot get anymore suqares out of the skein. I have made 2 this week and am almost finished with the third. Take a look:

This is a great little summer project. The afgan is getting to hot to handle in southern california and too big to carry around. But the squares are quite portable and don't make me hot at all. Plus they knit up pretty quickly. And, its a great way for me to learn new patterns and sharpen my knitting skills before I take on my first sweater!

Plus, I am decreasing my stash. Score!

WWKIPD!

Well, I got so busy on WWKIP day that I did not get to the event I was planning to attend. Nor did I make it to the Yarn Lady Bag Sale. I ended up having breakfast with my hubby and another couple. These folks are great friends and we had a wonderful time. When we left their, i ran out and bought groceries, returned a skirt that was too BIG (YEAH!!!!)and I went to Michaels. By the time that was all done, it was well past 4 PM. Speaking of Michaels, can I just say that the place is like Disney Land these days! 10 years ago, I would go into Michaels every now and again and I gotta say, if my memory serves me, it was not that busy. Now, the place is teaming with people in every isle! America is definately more crafty than it used to be. I think it has to do with the high stress lifestyles we all lead. People need an outlet. As I have mentioned before, its definately very comforting and therapeutic for me. Even watching others knit soothes me. Anyway, I just think its amazing how many folks are crafting these day. I also like the idea of making things for myself and others. Somebody mentioned that handmade gifts are few and far between these days. Its true. People don't seem to value handmade things the way we should. But thats not surprising since the whole world's value system seems to upside down in this age. I am thinking of giving all handmade gifts this year to my family. At work, my 3 office mates and I do a gift exchange. I am thinking of suggesting that we do handmade things. I will let you know how that goes!

At any rate, I did end up making it to a coffee shop near my home on WWKIP day and I did actually knit a little. The picture below is a little bit faked. I had forgotten to bring the right needles so I just knit a bit to say I did it and for the picture. I will have to pull out those stitches and fix it later. Oh well, I will make next year. Maybe I will even host an event myself!

Yarn Swap

Hi all,

I was listening to the Craftypod podcast and learned of this great site:

Its a place where crafty types can go to swap handmade items, craft supplies, etc. Its a really interesting site.

I decided to sign up for the Yarn Swap. Since I joined up on the Stashalong board, I won't be buying any new yarn, but I think swapping is legal. Stashalong is really going to help me to focus on my projects. My goal for june is to complete the crocheted afghan pictured in a previous post. I am confiden that I will get it done. Not so confident I will actually give it away though! Hmmmmmmmmmm, I wonder what else I can give my friend..............

On this swap, I will be partnered up with someone and we will send one another 4 skeins of yarn. We can send 4 of the same kind whether they be hank, skein or cake or we can send 4 different kind. I am even thinking of sending extras just to shrink my out of control stash! I think this is such a cool and interesting way of connecting with people I don't know. And, you get a rating just like on ebay. If you are a bad swapper, you will bet dinged and can get banned from swapping again. Hopefully, this will be a great experience!
