So, I am wanting to really learn how to sew. Since I taught myself to knit, I think I can teach myself to sew. So far, no dice. I have 3, count 'em, 3 sewing UFOs. Last night I was trying to sew an "easy" top. Well, it ain't sew easy! Anyway, I am looking for a class, but I they are a little hard to find. Plus, if I can teach myself, why pay? What do you think? Can I teach myself to sew from a book?

I took sewing in school about 20 years ago. Put it down for years after that, but went back to it a couple years back and was like riding a bike. I would take a class for sure, if you find one. Like any craft, there are some basic fundamentals that help make your projects much more professional looking.
Good luck and let us know how you do!
I'm a visual kinda of chic, for most things I need to SEE it being done or with my sewing (I used my old clothes as patterns. I take them apart)
Good luck with your new hobby.
I am sure there are lots of videos/tutorials on the internet!
Definitely can try Jo-Ann's or Michael's for their classes. I am sure they would be much cheaper than others (i.e. community/tech colleges) just to get the basics down.
I love Erica's blog (www.ericabunker.com). She has some really great references (books) and even a thread on sewing 101! Check her out! She is an Ebony Elite co-founder! :oD
Thanks for the tips ladies!
I'm sure you can learn from video tapes and visual books.. that's how I learned and still learning. I will stay tuned for a FO.
